To The Photographer I am Becoming

A letter for the days I forget why I create

portrait of Adrian in a black and white edit.

Querido Adrián,

If you’re reading this, I know you might be feeling disconnected — from your work, your creativity, or maybe even yourself.

Maybe the camera feels heavy. Maybe inspiration feels far away. Maybe you’re scrolling more than you’re seeing.

So I wanted to leave this here —a letter for the days when you forget why you ever picked up a camera in the first place.

These are the reminders you once needed. And probably always will.

1. You are a creative being. Always.

Even when you’re not shooting. Even when your ideas feel quiet. Being creative is not something you earn. It’s something you already are.

2. Listen more than you force

Some of your best images didn’t come from a plan. They came from noticing what the world was already offering. The way light rested on a shoulder. The shape of stillness on a rainy sidewalk. Your only job is to receive.

3. This is a way of being.

You’re not a photographer because you post your work. You’re a photographer because you see differently now. Even when the camera’s not with you, your eyes are framing, feeling, observing. That’s the practice. That’s the point.

4. Let go of needing everything to be for something.

Not every image needs a caption. Not every frame needs to be shared. Some moments are yours alone.

Shoot them anyway.

5. There is no “bad.”

You’re not here to make perfect work.

You’re here to explore, to reflect, to feel.

Sometimes the blurry shot will say more than the sharp one ever could.

6. Let the work change with you.

What speaks to you now might not speak to you later. That doesn’t mean it’s lost its value.

Your photography will grow because you will grow. Let it evolve with you.

7. Control is not the point.

Things will go out of focus. Light will shift. Subjects will walk away.

Let it happen. Some of the best images are born in the unexpected.

8. You’ll never feel “done.”

And that’s okay.

Done isn’t the goal. Curious is the goal.

Keep following the thread.

9. What you see matters.

There is someone out there who will feel seen because of how you see.

Your perspective might be exactly what someone else needed to witness.

So keep noticing.

Keep sharing.

And when you forget all of this, come back to the frame. Come back to the light. Come back to yourself.

“You don’t need to stand out. You need to show up”

Because photography isn’t just about capturing what’s out there. It’s how you appreciate life.

Con orgullo and gratitude,

Adrián
